The project featured this
month was recently shipped and
installed in an upscale
restaurant/club in New York
City. Earlier this year, a
representative from the world
renowned I-Crave design company
called Mall Silks to discuss an
upcoming project inside a
boutique hotel in Manhattan,
NY. Design plans were discussed
and a concept was created for
the project. The design firm
contracted Mall Silks to
manufacture and install 4 large
natural trunk white Birch trees
and complimentary
containers. Two trees were 15'
tall, one 16' and one
17'. Custom steel bases were
manufactured for the trees to be
installed into inside of large
fiberglass containers. After the
trees were finished being built,
they were shipped to the hotel
and the Mall Silks installation
crew met the semi in NY to
unload and install the trees.
The first step of the tree
set-up involved installation of
four large 42" x 42" fiberglass
containers that had to be set in
place over existing electrical
conduit (the trees were to be up
lit with spot lights). Next, the
bases had to be manually lifted
into the containers and
secured. The placing of the tree
trunks into the bases was the
final step and the lengthiest
part of the project as the
trunks had to be re-fabricated
to fit around multiple steel
beams supporting the ceiling
structure. After the trunks were
installed, the containers were
top dressed with a polished
imported beach pebble. The
project took over 100 man hours
to build and 2 full days for the
crew to install. There were
almost 72,000 fire retardant
Birch leaves used, 10 large
birch trunks, many fabricated
limbs, 4 huge fiberglass
containers, and over a ton of
imported beach pebbles. |

All
preserved palm trees made by Mall Silks are
custom made to order. They are made
using various preserved or artificial leaves
and bark products. These preserved palms are
made using either naturally preserved
Washingtonian
or
Date Palm
fronds and natural dried Aloe or
Washingtonian palm bark. The trunks are
fabricated by Mall Silks designers into a
structurally sound and botanically pleasing
palm trunk. A custom base is made either
from steel or concrete depending on the type
of installation (floor mount, container, or
built in planter).
The natural
preserved palm fronds are attached to a
receiving piece at the top of the trunk. The
trunk is shipped with the fronds detached
and the fronds are installed on site. The
preserved palms can be made from a 3' tall
bush form up to mature palms that are over
40' tall!
The preserved
palms are only for interior use as the
preserved foliage will degrade over time if
exposed to direct sunlight. The best part is
that they are virtually maintenance free and
will last in great condition for many years
with no maintenance. The trunks will last
for decades if not exposed to high light
situations and the preserved fronds
typically last between 5 and 7 years
depending on the environment. Please
